What to do if wire pokes

Orthodontic wires apply gentle and continuous pressure on teeth to move them. Sometimes, as teeth shift, a wire may start poking out in the back by your molar. It may be very uncomfortable. First thing to do is to see the poking wire with a mirror and good lighting. If it is not attached to the braces, try to cut the long piece with a small sharp pliers or nail clippers. If it is a short piece, try to push the wire using an eraser tip of a pencil and cover with orthodontic wax. We advise our patients to schedule an earlier appointment with our clinic.
