SELF - LIGATING BRACES

The most commonly known fixed orthodontic appliance is BRACES.

In my office I use two different types of braces: Metal Braces and Clear Braces.

Metal braces are small metal attachments that are bonded on each tooth with tooth-coloured glue. This glue is strong enough to withstand orthodontic forces during treatment and is easily removed without damaging tooth enamel at the end of treatment.

Unlike traditional braces, metal braces at our clinic are self-ligating, meaning they use built-in metal clips instead of elastic rings to hold the arch-wire in place. This advanced system reduces friction, allows for smoother tooth movement, and may shorten treatment time. However, for those who love adding a pop of colour, optional elastic rings can still be placed for a personalized touch at each visit.

The arch-wire remains the active element of the system, gently guiding teeth into their desired positions for a beautifully aligned smile.

Clear braces are small ceramic attachments that are bonded on each tooth. They are used for patients who prefer a less visible option during their orthodontic treatment.

What Are Self-Ligating Braces?

Self-ligating braces are an innovative type of dental braces designed to improve comfort and efficiency during treatment. Unlike traditional braces that use elastic rings to secure the metal wire, self-ligating orthodontic brackets have built-in clips that hold the wire in place. This reduces friction, allowing for more natural tooth movement and fewer adjustments during your orthodontic care.

Benefits of Self-Ligating Braces

  • Faster Treatment Time – The advanced technology in ligating braces allows for quicker and more precise tooth movement.

  • Fewer Orthodontic Visits – Since these braces require fewer adjustments, you’ll spend less time in the dental chair.

  • Improved Comfort – The self-ligating system reduces pressure and friction, making treatment more comfortable than traditional braces.

  • Better Oral Hygiene – With no elastic ties, self-ligating braces make brushing and flossing easier, helping to maintain dental health.

How Much Do Braces Cost in Toronto?

One of the most common questions patients ask is, “How much are braces?” or “How much do braces cost?” The dental braces price varies depending on the type of braces, complexity of treatment, and duration. The best way to determine the cost of braces is through a braces consultation at Leaside Orthodontic Centre. Our team will assess your needs and provide a customized treatment.

At Leaside Orthodontic Centre, we provide children's teeth braces as well as orthodontist braces for adults. Whether you need kids braces or a discreet option for adults, self-ligating orthodontic brackets can be a great solution for all ages.

When Should Kids See an Orthodontist?

We recommend that children visit a kids orthodontist by age 7 to monitor the growth of their permanent teeth and address any orthodontic issues early on. Early intervention can prevent more complex treatments later.

Can Adults Get Braces?

Yes! Many adults choose teeth braces in Toronto to correct misaligned teeth and achieve a healthier smile. Self-ligating braces are a great choice for adults seeking a more efficient and comfortable treatment option.
